The Second Shift
After more than 70 years in the workforce many working women continue to come home to a second shift. The Second Shift is a term coined by sociologist Arlie Hochschild to describe the domestic work employed women complete after their paid work.
In fact, as recently as 2015, Stats Canada reported that women continue to spend 3.9 hours everyday on unpaid work. With the onset of covid the workload during the second shift has increased dramatically, more cleaning and disinfecting, more meals at home, homeschooling, etc.
The solution to the second shift is simple, it involves everyone doing their part. Domestic work is NOT "Mom's" job, it is daily tasks that need to be completed by and for the whole family. Care work is NOT
"Women's" work, children and other family members requiring care need the love and support of the whole family.
Please feel free to share our video and share the workload.
